If this is your first time on our articles page, thank you for stopping by. We want this to be a helpful resource that quickly connects you to the information you need.
As you may know, Senate Bill 24 was passed by the State Senate on May 20th. This is the proposed legislation that would force our public universities to become abortion providers. It is now going through the relevant committees in the State Assembly — the next hearing being June 25th.
The members of the Higher Education Committee need to hear from you, especially if you are one of their constituents. If you know anyone who lives in these areas, let them know how important it is to call their representative.
To find out precisely which assembly district you live in, visit findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov. When you place your calls to the Sacramento or district offices, leave your name, where you’re calling from, and a message of opposition. Tell the staffer that you urge the assemblymember to vote no on the bill or to make an abstention, as there are far too many issues with SB24 — even from a pro-choice perspective. (Read through our other articles to learn about those problems.) Don’t worry about calling pro-life assemblymembers with messages of solidarity. We can free up their phones for other matters.
If you can make it to the Capitol on June 25th, we invite you to join our friends from Students for Life for their rally on the western steps at 10:30AM. Pro-lifers will be making the rounds inside the Capitol as well, visiting the offices of the committee members before lining up for the hearing at 1PM.
Spread the news. Let’s make a great showing. Make a stand for the weakest in our society, and let Sacramento know what supporting students really looks like.
